Each is spun without killing the silk worms inside the cocoon so that they naturally transform into butterflies without being boiled or suffocated through a heating process. It is a sillk traditionally created for Indian holy men or yogis who would wear ahimsa silk for its pure vibration or "non violence"
The Ahimsa Silk Scarf Project was created to help women living in vulnerable communities in Northern India where they are able to profit on every level of production as they grow the silk worms, spin, dye and weave the yarn into beautifully woven scarves. Through this initiaitve, women are empowered because they now play a central role in production and business management; the land is reforested to provide enough trees for the worms to live in and the artisans use dyes derived from vegetables in their gardens. Establishing sustainable holistic models of business like this are key to the success of these vibrant communities.
