Product Description

The Assamese scarf in its deep palette of purples, burgundy and neutral tones is a gorgeous scarf handwoven by the Bodo women weavers of Assam, India.

The co-op of indigenous Bodo women bring their skills - passed down from mother to daughter - to create these intricately woven scarves which incorporate traditional Bodo design elements and skills. This cooperative was formed in as a project of a local non-governmental organization to tap into the existing skills of Bodo weavers and expand income opportunities for women. They made a commitment to work specifically with the poorest of the weavers; the group steadily grew, forming a trust employing over one-hundred local weavers.

The Assamese scarf measures 12"x 60".
