Product Description

This stunning bracelet created from thousands of tiny rainbow colored beads and crystals is designed by women in a remote village in Afghanistan to reflect the exquisite gardens of King Zahir Shah.

Through this jewelry making initiative, the women are seeking to commemorate the life of this beloved king whose reign was known for peace, educational opportunities for women, and creating the first Afghan democracy with elections and a Parliament.

The women who are part of this jewelry making fair trade initiative express their gratitude for the opportunity to have a dignified livelihood.  As one remarks, “We all are very happy with this job.  It helps us to forget our family problems for the hours that we are working together, laughing and talking.  When we are together we talk and learn what is going on in the world.  Being together makes us brave and gives us courage to fight for our rights.  When we see that our children are happy, that we have money to put them in school and buy clothes for them, it makes us happy.  Thanks be to God for giving us this job.  Thanks to the people who try to provide work for us.”

Your purchase of the Kings Garden Bracelet sends a hopeful message to these jewelry makers, one that reminds them they are not forgotten.

The Kings Garden Bracelet will be sent to you in a special jewelry bag created by women in Iraq - there will be a lovely little silver charm on the bag created by women in Jordan with the Arabic symbol for "remember me".  The bracelet is a standard 6" across and comes with two flexible beaded loops. A story card is included.

GIFT BOX:   This gift is available gift boxed.  It will arrive in our signature white gift box with raffia ribbon and will be presented with a lovely copper Cambodian peace bell - once part of a disused landmine and now recreated into bells for their cows and oxen by Cambodian villagers.  Your gift box option is available at checkout.
