The Story
The environmental benefit of paper made from recycled cotton rags is significant since the process does not require the destruction of our trees! And it is even more significant, that rural women in India are involved in handmade paper production – considered to be highly effective means of creating sustainable livelihoods in rural areas, especially for unskilled women who do not require previous technical experience.
The art of hand block printing is part of a vital and rich artistic tradition in Western India – and women have over the centuries incorporated flowers, birds, stars into their designs. These artful pieces are created from natural dyes and cotton fabric. Each a testament to the hopes and dreams of women living in this remote area of Western India.
