The lotus flower is considered one of Buddhism's best recognized symbols, and is one of the Eight Auspicious Symbols of Buddhist teaching. It symbolizes the progress of the soul from the primeval mud of materialism, through the waters of experience, and into the bright sunshine of enlightenment.
Our beautifully designed Lotus Peace Pendant comes with an 18" coffee colored fiber cord and is a powerful symbol for still yet another reason: it is created from dismantled nuclear weapon systems through a process that transforms disused copper missile cabling into a non - radioactive alloy called Peace Bronze.
The Story
In the mid twentieth century, thousands of missiles with nuclear warheads were built and inserted into silos into the ground primarily in the American Midwest.Thousands of miles of copper alloy cabling connected these missiles to U.S. military command.
Since the late 1980s, the U.S. has taken great strides to promote peace by entering into a number of nuclear disarmament treaties. And inspite of the dismantling of many warheads, the cabling connecting the disarmed nuclear missile silos was left in the ground. This non-radioactive cabling, up to 3.5 inches in diameter and made of plastic, copper, and steel, was buried deep underground to keep it impervious to nuclear assault.
Our partner company, From War to Peace, has patiently dug much of this missile cabling out of the soil, recycled the metals into their pure forms, and used the copper to create an alloy called Peace Bronze© – a non radioactive alloy that is as safe as the pennies in your purse or pocket.
The Women’s Peace Collection is pleased to partner with From War to Peace, a remarkable enterprise that is committed to fostering peace in the world and to” turning weapons meant to destroy us into art that will restore us.”
20% of the sale of this beautiful pendant is being donated to peace and social organizations that are making a difference in the world.
