Raffia is a renewable resource and found abundantly in Uganda, a country often described as the "jewel of the nile" ,lying on the Equator and home to Lake Victoria, the source of the Nile. Ugandan basketweavers,primarily women,are highly regarded in the region for their weaving skills. Women can often take several days to make each colorful basket formed by coiling the naturally dyed raffia around its sturdy base. Traditionally, these colorful baskets were used for special gift giving celebrations.Today, each basket also offers a special message of hope and resilience!
