Raffia is found abundantly in Uganda, a country often described as the "jewel of the nile" lying on the equator and home to Lake Victoria, the source of the Nile. Ugandan women basketweavers are highly regarded for their weaving skills and can take several days to make each colorful basket, formed by coiling the naturally dyed raffia around the sturdy base in unique patterns. Traditionally, these colorful baskets were used for special gift giving celebrations.  Today, each basket also offers a special message of hope and resilience!
