ABOUT THE ARTISANS

This doll was hand knit by women artisans in a fair trade cooperative in the Peruvian highlands. Farming is the main source of income for most of the women so they are unable to leave the home during the day. The cooperative provides the artisans with much needed additional income, allowing them to knit the products at home on their own schedule. They use locally sourced materials such as cotton and alpaca to make their beautiful products. The cooperative provides 100's of artisans with with long-term, consistent work, as well as access to healthcare and education.
