This stunning basket is the deepest in the pine needle collection. It is designed and handcrafted by Mayan women in a fair trade cooperative in Guatemala. It is made of pine needles and pajon, a native Guatemalan grass, and accented with a touch of purple raffia. Sturdy and extremely well-made, it can be used to hold fruit, mail, etc - or better yet, leave it empty to show off the gorgeous interior. It would make a beautiful, sizable Easter basket.
Pine needles, native grasses, raffia ribbon.
11" wide at top, 7"wide at base, 4 3/4" deep.
ABOUT THE ARTISANS
The women who handcraft our pine needle baskets go out together, often to quite distant places, to collect the longest pine needles they can find and then stitch them together with raffia and native grasses. Working with fair trade, the women earn regular income, allowing them to feed their families, send their children to school and harbor hopes for a better future.
