Celebration Necklace - Turquoise, Thailand

This stunning necklace is striking enough to be a statement piece, yet it is lightweight and elegant.  Handmade by women in a fair trade cooperative in Thailand, it consists of several layers of woven gold silk thread, semi-precious stones and glass beads. The adjustable clasp allows for it to be worn at varying lengths.

Measurements:  The shortest strand measures approximately 17" around, plus a 2" extender chain.  The longest strand is 2" longer than the shortest.

ABOUT THE ARTISANS

This beautiful jewelry is handmade by Akha women in a fair trade cooperative in Thailand.  The Akha people are an indigenous hill tribe who live in small villages in the mountains of Thailand and other Southeast Asian countries.  Over 100 artisans are employed in the collective, both full and part time, and the women not only receive fair wages but are able to work either communally or from home.  Their designs are unique and contemporary, and are well received in the North American marketplace.
