ABOUT THE ARTISANS
This piece of jewelry was handmade in a fair trade women's cooperative in Southern India. The artisans are paid excellent wages and work in a safe and supportive environment with a shorter than average work day. They also receive free transportation to work, counseling, healthcare and business training. Their children are provided with access to quality education. Approximately half of the women live in a safe house on site which is a refuge for vulnerable women and children. These women are empowered through their employment and new skills, and have seen their status in society rise due to their ability to support their families.
