This exquisite basket is designed and handcrafted by Mayan women in a fair trade cooperative in Guatemala. It is intricately woven with long leaf pine needles, raffia ribbon and pajón, a native grass found near Lake Atitlán. This is our largest basket and with its deep sides it is practical as well as stunning. And like all of our pine needle baskets, it will bring the fresh smell of natural grasses into your home.
Pine needles, pajón and raffia.
Measures 12" across and 4" high.
ABOUT THE ARTISANS
The women who handcraft our pine needle baskets go out together, often to quite distant places, to collect the longest pine needles they can find and then stitch them together with raffia and native grasses. Working with fair trade, the women earn regular income, allowing them to feed their families, send their children to school and harbor hopes for a better future.
