This fabulous necklace features a stunning array of multicolored repurposed kantha textile beads. This newest version features 3 long strand of fabric beads with black glass seed beads on the top portion.
The artisans cover handmade wooden beads with recycled remnants of discarded vintage cotton saris and quilts. And the wood for the beads comes from furniture scraps, so this is truly a recycled item.
Measures approximately 31" long at longest strand.
Please note: colors will vary as each bead is individually made.
ABOUT THE ARTISANS
Our kantha jewelry collection is handmade in a fair trade women's cooperative in India. The artisans are paid excellent wages and have seen their standard of living greatly increase through fair trade practices. In addition, Worldfinds, the company working with the women, has established the Girls Education Fund, which provides scholarships for marginalized girls to continue school. In India it is estimated that 64% of adolescent girls are forced to leave school early to take care of younger siblings, help run the household or for arranged marriages.
