This stunning scarf is 100% handwoven by expert weavers in Egypt. It is lightweight and luxuriously soft. The colors have a beautiful sheen to them and the hues change according to the light. This version sometimes looks more green, sometimes more purple depending on how the light hits it. There is quite a bit of emerald, more than the photos show (see closeup photo).
The scarf is large enough to wear as a wrap for those cool spring and summer days when you need just a little something around your shoulders. The viscous fabric is made from sustainable bamboo.
Measures 23.6" wide by 78.7" long plus fringe. (This is a large scarf).
ABOUT THE ARTISANS
This scarf was handmade by women in a fair trade cooperative in Nagada, Egypt, a pre-historic rural village. Artisans in this town have been weaving on the same type of looms that have been used since Pharaonic times, with weaving estimated to have started in Egypt around 4000 B.C. This traditional craft of weaving has been handed down from one generation to the other for thousands of years. The artisans in the cooperative are not only paid excellent wages, they work in safe conditions and use environmentally sustainable practices such as recycling and upcycling. Access to international markets has increased the artisans' livelihood and improved their standard of living.
