These adorable earrings are made of the tagua nut from Colombia. They feature 2 round tagua pieces held together by a silver metal ring.
Tagua is often referred to as an ecological alternative to ivory. The nut comes from the Ivory-nut Palm Tree in areas throughout the Amazon rainforest. Once dried, the nut can be carved and is then colored with non-toxic dyes and hand polished.
Measures approximately 1" around (size and shape may vary slightly).
Makes a stunning set with our Tagua Acai Necklace, Natural/Black.
ABOUT THE ARTISANS
This piece of tagua jewelry was handmade in a fair trade women's cooperative in Colombia. There are now over 500 artisans working in the cooperatives. They are paid excellent wages and some have received micro loans to start their own businesses. The 50 year Colombian civil war devastated the country and these fair trade ventures are helping families rebuild as well as promoting ecological sustainability.
