People love wearing Tree of Life jewelry because of its beauty and symbolism. This piece is handcrafted by women in a fair trade cooperative in Colombia and its simplicity speaks for itself. A piece of hand carved tagua with a cutout tree design sits on an adjustable, black leather cord.
Tagua is often referred to as an ecological alternative to ivory. The tagua nut comes from the Ivory-nut Palm Tree in areas throughout the Amazon rainforest. Once dried, the nut can be carved and is then colored with non-toxic dyes and hand polished.
Adjustable length allows it to be worn short or long.
ABOUT THE ARTISANS
This piece of tagua jewelry was handmade in a fair trade women's cooperative in Colombia. The majority of the artisans have been adversely affected by years of civil war and violence in Colombia. Through fair trade they not only receive sustainable wages but have access to micro loans, healthcare and education for their children. Your purchase enhances the well being of the women and their families, as well as promoting ecological sustainability.
