ABOUT THE ARTISANS

This gorgeous leather product is handmade in a fair trade cooperative in Haiti.  The group was started after the massive Hurricane Matthew in 2016 when the country was completely devastated.  This cooperative has provided much-needed consistent, well-paying work to many Haitians and also offers health insurance and educational opportunities for children.  The artisans use sustainable surplus leather that is the by product of meat that would normally go to waste.  The artisans are master craftspeople who are using traditional techniques to create contemporary designs.
