ABOUT THE ARTISANS

This scarf is handwoven by indigenous artisans in a fair trade cooperative in Oaxaca, Mexico.  The artisans have a long history of weaving on pedal looms. In addition to weaving traditional Mexican designs, they are now working with a U.S. designer to create contemporary scarves like these. It is relatively rare for women in Mexico to weave on pedal looms due to the physicality of the task, but these strong women do a fantastic job. They are paid fair wages and work in excellent conditions.
