Recycled Sari Threaded Hoops, India

The fun, festive, fair trade earrings feature a large hoop with sari fabric beads. The artisans cover handmade wooden beads with recycled remnants of discarded vintage cotton saris and quilts.  They then wrap the beads with colorful cotton thread and cover them with textured strips. The beads are made from discarded wood from a local furniture company, making these a truly repurposed item.  These ethically handmade statement earrings are sure to be a show stopper.

Earrings measure approximately 2" in diameter.

Please note:  Since each product is handmade out of recycled fabric no 2 will be exactly alike.  However, the colors will be similar in all of them.

All of our products are shipped with cards containing information about fair trade and the corresponding artisan group.

ABOUT THE ARTISANS

Our sari fabric jewelry collection is handmade in a fair trade women's cooperative in India. The artisans are paid excellent wages and have seen their standard of living greatly increase through fair trade practices.  In addition, Worldfinds, the company working with the women, has established the Girls Education Fund, which provides scholarships for marginalized girls to continue school.  In India it is estimated that 64% of adolescent girls are forced to leave school early to take care of younger siblings, help run the household or for arranged marriages.
