These beautiful earrings feature locally sourced Guayacan wood and 2 pieces of hand-dyed tagua nut. 

The tagua nut comes from the Ivory-nut Palm Tree in areas throughout the Amazon rainforest.  Once dried, the nut can be carved and is then colored with non-toxic dyes and hand polished.  It is considered an ecological alternative to ivory and is very durable.

Earrings measure approximately 1.25" long (not including ear wires).

All of our products are shipped with cards containing information about fair trade and the corresponding artisan group.

ABOUT THE ARTISANS

This piece of jewelry is handmade by artisans in a fair trade cooperative in Ecuador.   In addition to being paid fair wages, the artisans receive additional benefits such as healthcare, holiday pay, hardship grants and education for their children. They also learn business and computer skills.  Contemporary designs combined with traditional techniques create stunning, unique pieces of jewelry.  Recycled, local materials are used whenever possible. This fair trade opportunity has provided the artisans with a steady, stable income, creating a path out of poverty.
