These gorgeous salad servers are truly special because they are hand carved using simple, rudimentary tools cut out of one piece of wood! They are made in a fair trade cooperative in Kenya where wood carving is the major source of income for the community. Each pair is unique, with differences in wood grain and color (see photos for examples). If you're looking for a small-sized set of salad servers these are a true winner.
Approximately 8" long.
ABOUT THE ARTISANS
These salad servers are handmade in a fair trade cooperative in Kenya comprised of numerous families and villagers who are involved in all aspects of production. Children are taught the carving skills from a young age, so this tradition has been passed down from generation to generation. Others in the community paint the products. All are paid fair wage and receive business training skills.
An integral part of the organization's function is to educate the craftspeople on the need for reforestation to enable the products to be available for years to come and offer a sustainable income for generations to come.
