This stunning trivet features a terracotta stone with a deeply incised bird design in a basket made of paisa grass and palm wrap.  After warming the stone in the oven, it serves as a warming trivet to protecting your table and keep food warm. 

Use and Care Instructions: Rinse before first use. Dry well. To use as a warming trivet: Heat oven to 350°F. Place terracotta stone in oven and bake for 10 minutes. Do not put basket in oven.Handling carefully after heating, place the stone in the included basket. To clean, rinse with water. Note: heating times may vary.

ABOUT THE ARTISANS

This item was handmade in a fair trade women's cooperative in Bangladesh.  In addition to being paid fair wages, the women gain access to business training, health and nutrition programs, and learn about women's rights.  Their children are able to go to school, whereas before working with the cooperative they were uneducated.  The artisans are also working to improve their local environment by investing in deep wells for fresh drinking water, sanitary toilets in homes, and community reforestation through distribution of tree saplings.
