Hand Painted Dinner Candles - Indabuko, South Africa

This gorgeous set of 2 dinner candles was hand poured and painted in a small village in South Africa. Colorful and useful, this makes the perfect gift and will brighten up any home. The Zulu name "indabuko" means "source" or "origin," reflecting the traditional design.

Candles measure approximately 9" tall.

Please note:  While the colors will be similar, each candle is hand painted so designs will vary.

ABOUT THE ARTISANS

This candle was handmade in South Africa in a fair trade cooperative that creates high quality hand-painted candles using African inspired designs. Their mission is, in a region with high unemployment, to alleviate poverty, not only through development of industry but to be socially, ethically, and sustainably responsible.

Based in the small village Napier, about 180 km east of Cape Town, the cooperative has provided employment to mostly woman of the disadvantaged community and guarantees an income for over 18 families. The unemployment rate in the area is in the region of 50%.  The patterns have Swahili names that represent aspects of life in the village.
