ABOUT THE ARTISANS

This item was handmade in a fair trade cooperative in Indonesia.  The artisans earn excellent wages and receive 50% interest-free advances to cover upfront costs.  The steady income helps families fund education, health-care and other costs to greatly improve their standard of living, while preserving traditional Indonesian crafts. Artisans collect discarded glass, window panes, or used bottles from local businesses, and then wash, crush, and melt down the shards in high-temperature furnaces.  The result is stunning, unique works of art.
